In loving memory ~
It is with sadness we share the sudden passing of Heather Lyon (nee Overton). Heather was predeceased by her loving husband, Don, and is survived by her sons David (Tami) and Peter (Leah) and grandchildren, Graeme and Rebecca.
Heather was born July 13th, 1933 in Lincoln, England and spent her youth growing up in various places around Yorkshire. She completed teaching training in physical education and taught for several years in the U.K., before accepting a job in Brandon, Manitoba. Heather loved the outdoors and the mountains and after a Christmas ski trip to Banff, she decided to move to Calgary. It was on an Alpine Club of Canada outing to Roger's Pass in the Canadian Rockies that Heather met her future husband, Don. The two married in 1965 and initially settled in Calgary where their sons, David and Peter, were born. In 1971 the family moved to Burnaby. Heather focused on raising the children before returning to the workforce. For nearly two decades she worked at Renfrew Community Centre in East Vancouver as a swim instructor, lifeguard, fitness instructor and seniors coordinator.
When Don retired in 1997, they moved to Nelson. They were both active members of the community and enjoyed their time together hiking, skiing and traveling. After Don passed away in 2013, Heather remained in Nelson and amongst her many friends until 2019 when she moved to Coquitlam to be nearer family. Heather did not find it easy to leave her life in Nelson behind, but often commented on how welcome she was made to feel in her new community at Marlborough House. She loved walking around Hoy Creek and Town Centre Park and visiting with family and friends both in Canada and back in England. Heather remained a bright, vibrant, and positive person until her sudden passing on April 29. She will be missed by all who knew her. A celebration of life will be held at 11 am on July 15th at the Old Mill Boathouse at 2715 Esplanade Avenue in Rocky Point Park in Port Moody.
