Long time Nelsonite and community leader, Hendrika "Henny" Christina Cherenko (nee Bos) has died and passed into the next life. Henny will be remembered for her work at MacDonald's Bottling Co. (1955-1961) and at the Canada Manpower Centre (1961-1979) and for her community services such as: Nelson United Church choir member, Eagles board secretary and bookkeeper, minor hockey and baseball scorekeeper and board secretary, and member of the War Brides group.
Henny was predeceased by her father Hendrik Bos (1895-1970), her mother Christina (Oma) Bos (1897-2001) and her brother Gus Bos (1935-2000). Henny was also predeceased by her husband John Cherenko Sr. (1911-1995) of Nelson, BC and eldest son John Cherenko, Jr. (1946-2018) of Fort Langley, BC.
Henny is survived and lovingly remembered by her son Reg Cherenko (and wife Dianne) from Trail, BC and son Dennis Cherenko (and wife Marilyn) from Delta, BC; her daughter-in-law Carrol Lasko from Fort Langley, BC; her grand-daughters Cindy Shaw (Len) from Kelowna, BC and Tara Meadows (Jonathan) from Vancouver, BC; her great-grandchildren Ryan and Cody Shaw, and Madison, Zoe and Levi Meadows; her brother-in-law Bill Chernenko (Vera) and sister-in-law Peippi Bos; and by 9 nieces and 6 nephews and their families.
Funeral services will be held at Nelson United Church, 602 Silica Street, Nelson BC on Saturday November 23 at 11:00 with interment to follow at Nelson Memorial Park Cemetery.
