It is with profound sadness that the Peterson family announce that Herta Margarete Peterson, 84, of Nelson, BC, passed away peacefully at home, on February 3, 2024, after a short but severe illness.
Herta was born on April 26, 1939, in Stonewall, Manitoba, to Frederick and Anna Bosinski. The family came to the Christina Lake area in the 1940's where they farmed in the small community of Fife. Herta was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Marilyn, Gerhard, Trudy, and Margot.
Herta was a loving wife to her husband, John of almost 67 years. Together, they built a beautiful life most of it spent on their beloved farm in Thrums. Herta was a devoted mother to her four children, Marlene (John), Della (Mike), Brenda (Ron), and son Eric (Marian).
She adored her grandchildren (Aaron, Megan, Andrew, Tara and Axel) and great-grandchild (Isabelle). Throughout their lives, she loved to spoil them with homemade goodies and hand made dresses for the girls. She very much enjoyed taking long walks and hiking with John.
Herta was a talented homemaker and took great pride in her skills. She had a green thumb and together with John, they grew a large garden, producing an abundance of vegetables, raspberries, and walnuts which they also sold commercially. Herta was well-known for her preserves of jams, jellies, and canned and frozen fruits and vegetables. She was sure to share these labours of love generously with her family and community.
Family relationships and enduring friendships were of great importance to Herta. Together with John she was very generous with her time and energy and was always available to lend a helping hand. She was always accepting, valuing, and encouraging; a precious gift to those that knew her.
Herta will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her kindness, generosity, and hardworking nature will be remembered fondly and will continue to inspire us.
A graveside family memorial will be held later in the spring to honor Herta's life.
