1940-2019 ~ Ian passed away at Mountain Lake Seniors Community in December 2019. He is survived by his son Jim (daughter in law Megan), daughter Kristine, (3 grandchildren Angela, Steven and Sarah), and 2 sisters, Ann Sturgeon (Joe) and Jill Miller (Lance) and brother, Neil McDonald. He was predeceased by his wife Anna Marie in 2010, mother Evelyn McDonald in 2000 and father John (Jack) McDonald in 1998.
Ian was born in August 1940 in Nelson, BC and was the third of four children. He worked for his father and grandfather (Long Jim McDonald) at the McDonald Jam Factory on Vernon Street in Nelson in the 1950's and 1960's.
In the 1960's Ian was also a volunteer fire fighter for the Nelson FD. When the Jam Factory closed in 1962, he moved to Calgary to work for Polar Aerated Waterworks until 1967. He met Anna Marie in Calgary in 1967 and moved back to Nelson where they got married in July 1967. He established their home and family at Bealby Point on Kootenay Lake where he lived for 52 years (and was commonly known as the Mayor of Bealby Point after the passing of the well known and liked Dave Bell).
After moving back to Nelson he worked at the CPR until 1977 and then moved on to work as a custodian for the Nelson School District until he retired in 1999.
In Ian's retirement he enjoyed drinking a beer/pop while looking over his beautiful beach, landscaping his gorgeous property, going for boat rides, socializing with friends and neighbours and reading the local newspaper.
A private family service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the Nelson Home Care nurses, Dr. Merritt, Bealby Point neighbours and the Mountain Lake Care Home staff for there help over the last couple of years.
