April 19, 1947 - November 9, 2020
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Ivan Douglas Smith on Nov. 9, 2020 at KLH in nelson at the age on 73.
Ivan was born in Nipawin Sask. April 19, 1947 and moved to Trail with his family as a young boy. He worked as a firefighter for Trail for over 30 years.
After retiring Ivan and Mary moved to Balfour where he lovingly spent his remaining years doing what he loved, working on his property from dawn to dusk right up to the end never letting his illness stop him from doing anything including travelling overseas to many, many countries and many cruises.
Ivan is survived by his loving wife Mary of 32 years, son Braden (Fiona) daughters Alison Lykins (Brent) Charissa Sabey (Nathan) grandkids Laura, Hayden, Liam, Lizzy Noah, Grace, Gwynn and Emily.
Also his brother Mack (Colleen), sister's Janet Kretlow, Jerril Matthews (Don) and nephew Ryan. Also survived by his stepdaughter Sheri Thompson (Brian) and family of Ottawa. He was preceded by his parents Maurice and Grace and by his stepson Alan Alton.
We would like to thank the Balfour Harrop fire dept. The paramedics, emergency staff at KLH Dr. Malpass who was always there for him and his chemo staff, Dr Kevin Mckechnie, the Thoracic surgical dept Kelowna, Dr Mostowy vascular dept Kelowna, and also the Thompson funeral home for all their help, guidance and compassion and a huge thank you to all the neighbours, friends and family who have been such an emotional support and help.
