June 19, 1936 - November 4, 2020
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband and father, Terry Wayling. On Nov. 4, 2020 Terry passed away peacefully at Kootenay Lake Hospital with his immediate family by his side.
Terry was born in Lethbridge, Alberta to Richard and Vera Wayling, the third son in a family of 4 boys. He spent much of his younger years between southern Alberta and Creston, B.C. where his parents owned a farm on the Creston flats.
After a short time in the Royal Canadian Air Force Terry completed his public schooling and went on to Victoria to pursue qualifications to begin his career in Education. He started his teaching at Central School, then on to principalships, to Director of Instruction, and to Superintendent of the Castlegar School District for his last 9 years before retirement.
On July 5, 1962 Terry married his loving wife, Dorothy. Later they were blessed with 3 children, Richard, Jennifer and David. He was a great role model, teaching and supporting them right up until the day he left this earthly planet. The death of his son. Richard, was a great sadness for him.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his daughter Jennifer (Colin), son David, daughter-in-law Robyn, brother Bill, and special step granddaughters Raelee, Tristalyn and Brooke. He is also survived by his extended Wayling family and the Maglio (Judy and Mel) clan.
Over the years Terry was very involved with teacher and administrator commitees as well as being a City Councilor and Hospital Board member. In latter years he assisted his wife with numerous Hospital Auxiliary commitments and became a member of the Auxiliary.
He spent his retirement years enjoying a few rounds of golf with old friends, reading many books, following business info on television and watching his favourite teams, the Blue Jays and Raptors in the world of sport.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation, 3 View St., Nelson, B.C. V1L 2V1
Big hugs and thank yous to Dr.McKechnie, Dr. Tuvel, and the incredible staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital. Thank you also to the paramedics and staff at the Medical Clinic. Terry loved you all!
