August 27, 1922-May 29, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce that our Mother passed quietly in her sleep on Sun, May 29, 2016. Jean is predeceased by her parents, Paul Vatkin and Dora Plotnikoff (Grand Forks, BC), and her siblings Anne Jmaeff (Comox, BC), Freddie Vatkin (Grand Forks), and Dorothy Pereversoff (Shoreacres, BC). She is survived by her sibling Winnifred Evans (Victoria, BC) as well as her siblings from her mother’s marriage to Mike Popoff (Grand Forks); Sam Popoff (Kamloops, BC) and Lenore Hussereau (Forestburg, Alb) .

When Jean was eighteen, she married Walter Malakoff of Hills, BC and had four children. In 1958, they separated and Jean moved first to Kaslo, BC and then back to Grand Forks with her children. She is predeceased by her two oldest sons Walter Malakoff Jr (1983, Surrey BC) and Paul Malakoff (1996, Naramata, BC). Jean is survived by her son Peter Malakoff (Coquitlam, BC), daughter Margaret Hendry (Surrey, BC), and ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren living in Naramata, Penticton, Surrey, Cloverdale, Vancouver, Coquitlam, Calgary, and Seattle, USA.

While living in Grand Forks, Jean became involved in the Jehovah’s Witness faith and this led to a life-long passion for her. Jean will be interred at the Robinson Memorial Park cemetery in Coquitlam, BC. “Free from pain at last----Rest in peace dear mother”
