December 12, 1936 - January 30, 2025
In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean Oxley Elliot, who left this world on January 30, 2025, at the age of 88 due to a heart attack. Surrounded by her loving family, she departed with the heartfelt words that she had lived a wonderful life and couldn't have wished for anything more.
Jean was born on December 12, 1936, in Ottawa, Ontario, to Lawrence and Ella Button. From a young age, she displayed a passion for adventure and an unshakable dedication to her community. She enjoyed her first career as a flight attendant for Trans-Atlantic Airlines, after which she worked in sales and as a devoted mom to her two daughters. Her humor, and confidence inspired all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Beyond her career, Jean was an enthusiastic traveller, a knitter with the prayer shawl group, rower with the Kootenay Rhythm Dragonboat Team, one of the few female volunteers of the Nelson Electric Tramway Society and found great joy in sharing her voice with others. She was an active member of Second Winds, where she used her gift of song to bring comfort and happiness to those in long term care facilities and Broader Horizons. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering generosity touched countless lives, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. She found joy in the simple things—walks at Lake Side Park with friends, volunteering at the United Church, time with family, and loved get-togethers that involved drinks, music and laughter.
Jean is survived by her children, Elisa (Elliot) Shine and Jodi (Soleil) Elliot, and her cherished grandchildren, Rose, Naia, Rayne, Ariel and Jasper.
A celebration of Jean's life will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 3:00 PM at The Nelson United Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Capitol Theatre in Nelson, a Society close to Jean's heart.
Though Jean is no longer with us in body, her beautiful spirit lives on in the love she shared, acts of kindness and the memories she created. Her fun nature and larger than life personality will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
