In the early morning hours of February 21, 2025, Joan Helen Ruth Lewis passed away peacefully at the age of 86 in her home. Joan was a third generation Nelsonite, born September 10, 1938. She married Richard D. Lewis on her birthday in 1960 and devoted her life to her family.
Joan is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard D. Lewis, her daughter, Jennifer Lewis Stedman of Walnut Creek, California, and her son, Richard David (Carmen) Lewis of Invermere, BC, three grandchildren, Julia Stedman, Jenna Stedman and Richard Colton Lewis. She was predeceased by her parents George and Katherine Hancock of Nelson and her sister, Katherine Ann Blackett of Vancouver.
She was a good wife, a good mother, a good friend and a good person. And that might not sound like a lot, but it really is.
Special thanks and deep gratitude to Dr. Andre Kirsten for his decades long exceptional care, kindness and support of our mother; to the nurses, care aids and staff on the medical floor at KLDH in Nelson; and to Cathy Jo Wright for her compassionate care, expertise and the support she provided which enabled us to grant mom's final wish of bringing her home. We are forever grateful.
