Joanne Emily (Jemma to her kids & grandkids) passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2024. Born to parents Anne & Harold Mayhew on February 3rd, 1949, Joanne was raised in Edmonton, AB alongside her 7 siblings.
From childhood, Joanne had a passionate and loving soul that loved to care for infants and children. The superstar babysitter went on to have a decades long career as a maternity and public health nurse specializing in infant and new mother care. Her impact on the community of Nelson & area was immeasurable and the love she had for young souls and new families transformed many lives.
Jemma's greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. Her daughters Christa (spouse Tad, sons Trent & Tanner) and Jessica (spouse Alex, children Taya, Audrey, Koen, Nella & Vera) and son Shane (spouse Megan, children Zac, Ivy & Oliver) will forever be grateful for the love she had for us all.
Beyond her huge heart, Joanne had a passion and zest for life that energized, elevated, and inspired everyone that knew her. Whether she was shredding powder, skimming across the waves, hiking tall mountains & flowery meadows, tearing up a dance floor, or quietly tending her garden, she lived life to the fullest. The smiles and laughter she brought to us all will never be forgotten.
There will not be a funeral service. Plans for a celebration of life and to spread her ashes will be made at a later date.
