April 21, 1929 - March 15, 2022
In loving memory ~
John Charles Bastow, known as Jack to family and friends, was born in Montreal on April 21st 1929.
He passed away at Jubilee Manor in Nelson, BC on March 15th, 2022, after a lengthy illness.
Jack was predeceased by his mother, Hazel Bastow and his father John Bastow and his sister in-law Rebecca Liechtensteiner. Jack is survived by his sister Nicky Collins and husband John of Boston, his loving wife of 45 years, Gretchen Jordan-Bastow. Jack also leaves his much-loved children; daughter Nadine Ramelb of Maui, his stepsons Aaron Jordan of Vancouver and Ishi Jordan, resident of New Denver BC. He also leaves three grandchildren: Cyrus Jordan, Willow Amara, Nalani Rein and three Great grandchildren.
Jack was a unique and extraordinary man. After graduation from UBC he began his professional career as an educator, from elementary school to high school and finally a college instructor for training First Nations teachers. Beside the noble profession of teaching, Jack was accomplished in numerous other areas; he was a professional photographer and magician, historian, and a Baha'i scholar.
Jack joined the Baha'i Faith at the age of 19. Taught by the late John Robarts and Angus Cowan, Jack devoted his life to this Faith that he loved so much. In 1976 his marriage to Gretchen (of New Denver) was officiated by the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Nelson. So, he has come full circle.
Jack dedicated all his efforts to promoting the belief that "the earth is one country and mankind it's citizens."
The Family wants to thank the wonderful staff at Jubilee Manor for their kind and compassionate care as well as the staff of Talarico Place in Castlegar.
