John Posnikoff passed away at the age of 72 years old in Victoria B.C, on December 6, 2020 after battling and succumbing to cancer.
John was born in Grand Forks, B.C. on July 31, 1948 to John and Nellie Posnikoff. John was raised and grew up on the family farm on Airport Road in Salmo,B.C.
He graduated from Salmo Secondary in 1967, then enrolled in one of the first classes in the newly founded Selkirk College in Castlegar B.C. Following a year at Selkirk College, John left the Kootenays for Vancouver to take electrical technician training.
It was during his time at Vancouver Vocational Institute that John met and fell in love with Gunilla Norman. John and Gunilla were married December 11, 1971 in West Vancouver. They lived for a short period in North Vancouver then moved to Surrey B.C., where they built a new home and raised their family.
Shortly after graduating from V.V.I. John was hired by B.C. Rail and worked there until his retirement. Upon retirement, John and Gunilla sold their home in Surrey purchased a home and moved to Victoria BC.
John and Gunilla loved to travel. They travelled and toured Europe visiting relatives and friends in Sweden on a few occasions. John also enjoyed the culture and people they met on their visits to Cuba. John also enjoyed his visits back to his hometown of Salmo for numerous family visits and reunions.
John is survived by his wife Gunilla, daughter Nina Posnikoff, son Erik (Yoshimi) Posnikoff granddaughters Layla and Alice, brothers Nick (Judy), Mike (Sandra), Walter (Raynelle) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John's celebration of life will be determined and held at a future date when Covid restrictions are lifted and it is safe to do so.
