January 25, 1924, Julianna (Julia) Cecilia was born in Kriva Slovakia to parents Anna and Louis Furiak. At the age of 7, Julia immigrated to Canada with her mother and older sister Louise, meeting her father who had already been in Canada setting up a home.
Julia and her family settled in Shutty Bench BC and a few years later Julia and Louise became big sisters to Mary and Joe. Shutty Bench is where Julia met and married her husband Edwin Karl Johnson. Julia and Ed welcomed two children, Lucille, and Arthur.
Julia and her little family lived in Zincton and Kaslo for periods of time while her husband Ed worked in the mines. After moving to Nelson and settling in the cutest little house by the creek, Julia was a stay-at-home Mom until her children were old enough to look after themselves.
Julia went to work part time at Hoods Bakery where she stayed for many years. Julia loved baking and any time she had a chance she was always making cookies, pies, bread, tarts, and her famous butter horns. Over the years Julia also worked in the bakery at Super Value and Extra Foods. Her love of baking has carried onto her daughter Lucille and granddaughter Tracy.
Julia was predeceased by her husband Edwin, parents Anna and Louis, stepfather Steve Turcak, sister Louise, and brother Joe.
Julia is survived by her sister Mary, daughter Lucille Vulcano, her son Arthur Johnson (Donna), many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
The love of family was very important to Julia, she loved being with family and friends whether it was an after-church coffee party or just a good old fashioned family Sunday dinner. Our beloved Julia was and still is surrounded by our love and the love she's found in her eternal peace!
