November 27, 1948 - February 27, 2021
Kenneth Robert Cooper was born in Nelson on November 27, 1948 to Harry and Winnie (Farmer) Cooper and passed away at Kootenay Lake Hospital on February 27, 2021 following a brief illness.
At 6' 7" in height, Ken was a gentle giant, despite the ferocious moustache which preceded him into every location he entered. He always had a smile for everyone, a story or joke to tell, and a laugh to share.
'Coop' attended LV Rogers, Kootenay School of Art, Nelson Vocational School and Selkirk College. After a few brief stints away for work in Fort MacMurray, Calgary and Vancouver, he returned to Nelson and purchased his property in Balfour, home to Red Dog Marine, in 1985, and was happy there for the rest of his life. He was a Journeyman carpenter and a certified marine mechanic, so chances are he may have built you a futon or fixed your boat over the long course of his life lived here.
Ken was a loving husband to his wife and best friend, Janice Munro, a dad and friend to her children Evan, D'Arcy and Erica Booth, and an adored and adoring Grandpa Ken to Sloane, Chelsea and Richard.
Always up for a good time, we imagine Ken is now jamming with John Prine in the great hereafter. A celebration of life will be held when Covid allows. For now, please raise a Sleemans and toast a truly wonderful guy and a life well lived.
Ken, you were loved and will be missed more than you could have imagined.
