November 20, 1931 - April 3, 2025
In loving memory ~
Laura passed on peacefully in her own home, twenty years to the day after her husband and soul mate Bob died. She was grateful for the opportunity and the privilege to end her life on her own terms.
She was born and raised in Nelson and loved the city and the surrounding mountains. In 1951 Laura married her life partner Bob and together they ran several businesses including Nelson Flowers and Nelson Monument and Stone. Laura and Bob were Lions Club members, travelled extensively and spent 54 years hiking every trail they could find and bushwacking a few more. She always said the best hikes were right in her backyard and she enjoyed the beauty of animals and birds in nature to her last minute.
Laura was an advocate for organic, natural foods and the connection between body and spirit long before they became popular ideas, including a Qigong practice for many years. Laura's other love was painting. She learned from many of the best right here in Nelson during the 50's and 60's and always carried her sketch book with her into the mountains. She was prolific in both watercolor and oil scenes of nature.
Laura had a sharp wit and sense of humour. She loved a good laugh, and friends have called her determined and kind in equal measure. She was interested in people and the world, and also enjoyed a quiet, private life and her own company among "her trees". She was adored by many friends and family who will miss her.
Laura's life force and spirit will be with us all in different ways and we can honor her life and her love of nature by living ours to the fullest each day in harmony with our surroundings.
Donations can be made to the Nelson and District Hospice Society or the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation in her name.
