It is with love and sorrow that the family announce the passing of Lorraine Rose Mackie (nee Craig) on Thursday May 21, 2021. She passed peacefully in the company of loving friends and family, at Mountain Lakes Lodge at the age of 85.
Lorraine will be lovingly remembered by her 3 children; daughters Sharon (Lewis) and Kim (Dale), son Craig (Sarah- Jane); grandchildren Sheena (Jeff), Evan and Marlee; great grandchildren Ava and Logan; and grandpuppy Florian. She will also be remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Evelyn, and her loving husband Gordon. Lorraine's sister Anita passed away in September 2021 at her home in Ottawa.
Lorraine was born in Dawson City (Yukon), and was very proud of her northern roots; she carried the lessons learned there throughout her life. As a teenager, her family moved to Vancouver, BC where she graduated high school, began working, and was introduced to her friend Joan's brother Gordon Mackie. Gordon would become the love of her life; married in 1966 they would go on to spend 51 years devoted to each other and their 3 children. Lorraine and Gordon moved to Nelson, BC in 1969, where they established a lifelong home. Lorraine's adventurous northern roots paid off in Nelson, as she quickly established a lifelong group of friends and became involved in the community. She was a fixture at Nelson Pharmasave where she worked until retirement. Never one to sit still, Lorraine was an active volunteer in the United Church, Nelson Library, Jubilee Manor, and the BC Heart & Stroke Foundation. In her free time she loved to travel, walk, chat, and play cards with her Tuesday Bridge club. There were many trips to visit family and friends across the country, trips to the beach, camping around the Kootenays, and as her family grew, trips to Winnipeg and Kamloops.
A memorial of her life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation and the BC SPCA.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the caregivers at Mountain Lakes Lodge for their care and compassion during Lorraine's final months.
Lorraine shone a bright light upon the world; may each time we light a candle be a small reminder of her warmth and glow.
