In loving memory ~

Louise (Lou) Kirstine Breck passed away on October 20, 2024 at Mountain Lake Seniors Community at the age of 92, with her daughters, Karen and Ger, at her side.

Lou was born in Revelstoke, BC to long-time residents of Revelstoke, BC, Ludvig and Mary Hansen. Lou was the fourth of seven children and lived and grew up on the family farm in Revelstoke until she met her sweetheart Philip Breck. They married September 13, 1953 in Nelson and welcomed two daughters, Karen and Ger. Lou lived in Nelson the rest of her life.

Lou started her working career with Okanagan Tel in Revelstoke and later joined BC Tel in Nelson, where she worked for 30+ years. After retiring, Lou was able to pursue her passions of baking, gardening, quilting, and visiting family whenever she could. There was a time when Lou could have told you where the best pie was to be had between Nelson and Gull Lake, Sask.

Lou will be remembered as being one of the kindest souls. She was so caring, always had a kind word, saw the good in everyone, and showed so much love to all who knew her.

Above all else, the most important thing in Lou's life was her family. She was an amazing wife, mother, Gramma, Great-Gramma, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt.

Lou was predeceased by her parents; husband Phil of 49 years in 2002; sisters Edith, Irma (Frank) Grace, Elsie (Ray) Cunningham, brother Hanny (Gwen) Hansen, their spouses, and brother-in-law George Rohatynski. Lou is survived by her sisters Greta (Ray) Speerbrecker and Jo Rohatynski and many nieces and nephews. Lou is also survived by daughter Karen (Dick) Varney and their son Jim (Darcie) Varney and their children Davis (Ola) Anderson; Quinn Anderson; Jordan, Jill, and Max Varney of Sherwood Park, AB; and son Phil and his sons Kalin and Aiden Varney of Nelson. And, daughter, Ger Sells of Gull Lake, Sask and her children Tyler Sells of Gull Lake, Sask; Derek (Crystal) Sells of Saskatoon, Sask; Tara (Shawn) Lingenfelter and their children Ryden, Grace, and Phoenix of Shaunavon, Sask.

Our family would like to give a huge thank you to Dr Courtney Collins and the staff at Mountain Lake Seniors Community for the excellent care Mom received while she lived there.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lou's memory to BC Children's Hospital, BC Cancer Agency, Heart & Stroke, Kootenay Lake Hospital, or the charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held spring of 2025.

I hope death is like being carried to your bedroom when you were a child and fell asleep on the couch during a family party. I hope you can hear the laughter from the next room...
