Mairina Flora Vitale

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mairina Flora Vitale on August 15th, 2023, of Edmonton, Alberta.
Mairina lived in Nelson, B.C for most of her life but resided in Edmonton with her daughters for the past 20 years.
Born on April 23, 1930, in Santo Stefano del Sole, Avellino, Italy, she moved to Nelson in 1954, arriving to be with her husband who came the year before.
Together they raised their family and embraced their church and cultural community. They settled in the old Cottonwood Falls neighbourhood with many other immigrant families. They called Nelson their second home away from Italy. Many "paesani" also came to call Canada home, and we now realize the great sacrifices our First Nations People of this land paid for our prosperity.
Mairina will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Rita (Peter), Anna (Curtis) and Angela. She was a very proud Nonna to Danielle (Moe) and Bisnonna to Mia and Lola. She was predeceased by her husband Giovanni (John) in 1979. She was a woman of strong faith, a member of the Catholic Women's League for 40+ years and also a member of the Italian Ladies Auxiliary for 35 years.
A prayer service was held on Tuesday, August 29th, 2023 at 6:00pm and a funeral mass on Wednesday, August 30th , 2023 at 11:30 am, both at the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate, 813 Ward St, Nelson, BC.
