In loving memory ~
Marcel Durand, age 62, passed away on May 21st, 2024 in his home on Kootenay Lake in the care of his family. Born in Atikokan, Ontario, Marcel was a beloved son of Marie and the late Roger Durand.
In 1987, Marcel married the love of his life, Lisa. Their marriage was a testament to true love and partnership, filled with countless adventures, and deep, unwavering support for one another. Marcel leaves behind his devoted wife Lisa; his son Tyler (Alejandra), and their children Kayce and Ellie; and his daughter Britney (Braeden), and their children Tucker and Stella; his loving mother Marie; older sister Lorraine (Edward), and their children Sabrina and Danielle; younger brother Robert; and close family members Diana (Greg), and their children Sean and Chad.
Marcel was the epitome of "get it done" and a natural problem solver. He was a man of few words, but his tough kindness and relentless organization will always be remembered. Marcel was skilled in woodworking, mechanic work, welding, and building, not just physical structures but also the foundation of his family's success. Over the course of more than 20 years, he curated a vision, and meticulously designed and constructed a family home on Kootenay Lake that stands as a testament to his dedication and persistence.
Marcel's ability to plan and execute wonderful surprises for Lisa, including river rafting, trips to Vegas, and a hot air balloon ride, showcased his thoughtfulness and romantic side. Constructive criticism flowed naturally from Marcel, but deep down his caring heart came through all his actions. His vast skills and hard work were always directed toward making life better for those around him. Marcel and Lisa invested their time and resources raising their children in nature, spending time camping, fishing, boating, hauling firewood, and searching for Christmas trees. His dedication to problem-solving extended to helping his children with their continuous house renovations, moves, and mechanical challenges. He could often be seen wearing coveralls and crawling under, over, and into tight spaces.
A true outdoorsman, Marcel's passions included hunting, fishing, ATVing, and snowmobiling. He was actively involved with the Elkford Snowmobile Association, Nelson Snowgoers, and the B.C. Wildlife Association, ensuring others could share in the joy of the wilderness he loved. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations can be made to any of these organizations honouring Marcel's love for the outdoors and his community.
Marcel Durand will be deeply missed by his loving family, friends, and the communities he was a part of. His legacy of hard work, generosity, and remarkable problem-solving will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
