July 2, 1936 - June 28, 2021
Our beautiful Mom, Nana and Great Nana, Margaret Salekin (nee Graham), left this world on June 28th, after 85 years of love and laughter. She lived life on her own terms and showed us over and over how to move through life with strength, grace, and courage in every challenge she encountered.
Margaret was born in 1936 in Trail, BC to George and Ruby Graham and grew up with her sister Barbara (Nick) and brother David (d 1997). She worked hard, starting at age 15 at the Rialto Theatre in Trail and retired from the City of Nelson in 1997, but her focus was always her children, family, and friends. She married Peter Salekin (d 1982) in 1953 and they made their home in Nelson where she raised her children - Don (Isabelle), Dean (d 1956) Heather (Ken), Grant (Lawna), Graham (d 1967), and was a mother to Alexis and many more along the way.
Nana adored her grandchildren - Breanne, Ashley, Kyle, Lyle, Michael, Sarah, Brandy, and Sean and was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren. She befriended others everywhere she went and leaves behind her indelible spirit with those she knew in Nelson, Kelowna, and Prince George.
Margaret loved life! She was passionate and competitive about her hobbies and enjoyed curling, golf, bridge, and a good game of crib. She loved her morning coffee, a good drink, dancing, and any kind of fun. She volunteered, was an organizer and opened her home to others. She was a Highland dancer and teacher and proudly passed the tradition on to multiple generations. She was the best at giving gifts and celebrating all occasions. She loved her good friends, holding her grand babies, but most of all she loved her family.
As we carry on, we will honor her spirit of love, family, and resilience in our hearts.
Rest in peace Mom...
