Mark Kernaghan

April 6, 2010

MARK KERNAGHAN 1962-2010 This notice is to advise friends of Mark Kernaghan of his sudden passing on Tuesday, April 6 2010. He died in Kamloops, after a brief, but bravely fought battle with liver cancer. Mark was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1962. He worked in the auto-body field for many years, starting at the age of seventeen. He was a proven carpenter, tile setter and much more, with expertise in many fields. Mark was also an avid dancer and with his partner Carolyn, they traveled to many dance workshops where they learned a variety of dances. But it was West Coast Swing that was Mark's vocation. He did it with style and grace and a grin. They both were lucky enough, at Mark's suggestion, to teach dance in Kamloops and helped bring West Coast Swing to the town. Mark was very proud of that achievement. Mark's auto-body career started in Nelson, even before he finished high school. Previous to Nelson, Mark completed all of his primary schooling in Princeton, BC where he lived the life of Huckleberry Finn, having an absolute ball growing up. His fishing and hunting exploits are legendary. His mother Rosemary taught school there and his father, Bryon Kernaghan was the Deputy Government Agent. Mark's high school education was completed in Nelson, BC where his parents were able to continue their chosen professions It was in Nelson that Mark met his high school sweetheart, Heather Drake and they were married shortly after graduating. Things changed after a number of years and he met and married Veronica Swaine. Together they had Mark's greatest joy, a boy who they named Dawson. At the time of his death Mark was living very happily with the love of his life, Carolyn Bays. Mark was a good, honest person, never taking anything that wasn't earned, always told the truth and never hurt anyone. He was predeceased by his little sister Leslie Kernaghan, of Wasa, BC, who died of brain cancer a few years previous. He is survived by his mother Rosemary McDowell (nee-Kernaghan) of Summerland BC, his sister Shannon Kernaghan, of Delta BC, his brother Kurt Kernagahan of Wasa BC, his dad Bryon Kernaghan of Wasa BC, his step-dad Sandy McDowell of Summerland BC, his step mom Marie Kernaghan of Wasa BC, his spouse Carolyn Bays of Kamloops BC and cousins, uncles, aunts and of course many friends. If you knew Mark, you knew he was very much a person of value and high morals. When you think of him, please don't think sad thoughts, but smile and remember him the way he was. Much love to Mark and to all who knew and respected him. He knew how much he was loved. His Family A Celebration of Mark's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 10, 2010 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel, 285 Fortune Drive.
