– August 17, 2016

It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of Mary Kilford. Mom left us peacefully on August 17, 2016 at Mountain Lake Senior Community.

Mom, was born 91 years ago in Trail, BC to Virginio and Amabele Martin. She attended elementary and high school and was involved in school sports. She worked at the smelter (Teck) for a number of years and was an active member of the first aid team, she also worked at the City Bakery which is where she must have learned her passion for baking.

She met the love of her life – Roy Kilford, and was married to him on February 14, 1948. Mary and Roy moved to Nelson to settle down and to raise a family. In the summers, Mary would take hers and the neighbours kids to Gyro and Lakeside parks for picnic lunches and to spend the day there. She also loved her flower and vegetable gardens, where you could find a grandchild or two grazing. Mom loved her houseplants and had an amazing green thumb for all different varieties. Another love was selling Avon Products for 45-50 years all around the Nelson are which she was almost always a member of the Presidents Club.

Mom love to bake pies, cookies, cakes and deserts. We all have our favorites, from apple charlottes, lemon meringue pie, flapper pie, crème de menthe desert, apple crisp, sour cream cookies, brownies, cherry loaf, the list is really endless.

In 1983 Mom and her brothers and sister made a trip to Valvasone, Udine, Italy to visit and get reacquainted with various aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Roy, daughter Jean, brothers Sammy, Carlo, Rico, Archi, Verdun and sister Renee. Mom is survived by her son Stan (Fran) of Sparwood, her daughter Donna (Terry) of South Slocan, grandchildren Niki and Angus of Medicine Hat, Collin (April) of Sparwood, Shannon (Pat) of Sparwood, Bryce of South Slocan and Breanna of Leduc, Ab, great grand children Percy, Blake, Kaleb, Simon, Ocean, Bauer and Aiden.

Mom will be truly missed by all who knew her.
