With great love and very heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Pat McKernan at age 61, in Calgary, AB, of an aggressive brain tumor.

Pat was a devoted family man, to his wife and best friend of 38 years, Lucy, his children: Jenn (Jeff), Shaun (Casi), Ryan (Lisa), grandchildren: Max, Sam, Maddie, Ellie, Brody and Shelby, his siblings: Mike (Cindy), Gerry (Chris), Dennis (Nana), Maureen, Kevin (Dana), Tim (Linda).

Pat enjoyed very exciting and successful careers with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Commercial Crime) and Imperial Oil (Corporate Security). His accomplishments were many, known to very few. Pat kept people and things safe – he just didn’t talk about it.

He was an athlete and a competitor his entire life: swimming, cycling, running, golfer, and triathlete. Pat worked out at the gym every day, and said “if you are having a bad day..go for a work out...and if you are still having a bad day..work out AGAIN.”. He was a voracious reader who loved discovering and spending time in used book stores. Pat was well known to be a sun worshipper, and worked hard on his tan. Pat was a leader, and a mentor to colleagues, friends and family. His optimism and sense of humour lit up every room he entered.

Pat was a class act, and a classy guy. He was a very generous person and always gave of himself. Cancer took him from us, but it never beat him. Pat had the spirit of a warrior and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
