January 29, 1944 - October 11, 2022
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Richard, loving husband and father, at the age of 78 following a year long battle with mesothelioma. He was born on January 29th 1944 in Andover, England and passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 11, 2022 at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail B.C.
Richard immigrated to Canada in 1974 after traveling through B.C. with his two best friends, Mike & Gary and this inspired him to move to the area. He met his wife, Donna in Maple Ridge where they lived for many years and had two beautiful children, Devin and Danielle.
They decided to make the move to Nelson B.C. in 1999 for a better quality of life. He worked at Ainsworth Hot Springs for many years and then retired where he spent his happiest days on the lake taking care of the family garden.
He was inspired by the beauty of his surroundings and was often found taking beautiful photographs of the local wildlife. His dry sense of British humour never failed to make people laugh. He had a strong sense of loyalty to all his friends and was at his happiest surrounded by his family.
His two children, Devin and Danielle were the pinnacle of his existence, and he was extremely proud of all their accomplishments. Myrrah (daughter-in-law) quickly became an important part of the family.
Every summer you would see him hanging up the hummingbird feeders on the back deck where birds of every colour came to feed. When he wasn't watching the birds, he was taking impeccable care of his aquarium full of different types of fish, with some of his favourites, Dewie, Louie, and Stewey.
Richard is survived by his wife Donna, two children, Devin and Danielle, and daughter-in-law, Myrrah as well as his sisters, Gillian, Jennie and brother, Charles. His nieces, Natalie, Abby, Hannah and many nephews, Jack, Mark, Richard, and David as well as several great nieces and great nephews, including Polly who is with us today.
We would like to thank the hospitals and medical team in both Nelson and Trail for providing excellent care and support.
Richard's celebration of life will be on November 5, 2022 at the Balfour Community Hall 1-4pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's memory can be made to the BC SPCA.
