Although not a big man in stature, Bob's life of integrity, absolute determination, and commitment to work and family, created a huge legacy and touched the lives of many.
Known to his family and childhood friends as "Brown Bear", Bob was a gifted athlete and excelled in hockey and baseball as a boy and young man in Trail and Nelson.
Early in his career as a heavy duty mechanic, Bob gained a reputation for excellent work and was much in demand in his field. In his work, as in his life, he always finished what he started!
He became Okanagan College's first instructor of Heavy Duty Mechanics when it opened its doors in Kelowna in 1963. Over the years, Bob influenced the lives and careers of hundreds of students. He was the first OC employee to ever reach 25 years of service and was recognized as one of the "50 people who made a difference" during the College's 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2013.
Bob was predeceased by his 3 brothers and by the love of his life and wife of nearly 7 decades, Rosina. He was the steady central pillar of the family that they built together and leaves behind four very proud children: Judy (David Bifford), Alan (Cathy), Don (Karin), and Steve (Melissa).
Together, Bob and Rosina enjoyed many years in their cozy home and their connections with their neighbours. Camping trips (often with family), swims at their favourite beaches, and international travel were highlights of their retirement years.
In addition to his exceptional career, Bob's true legacy lives on in the form of his 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom admired, loved, and revered him. They will remember him for his caring ways, his "briefness" on the phone, and for his dedication to their beloved "Grandma".
Although he was known to be reluctant to part with a dollar, Bob was generous of spirit and always ready to help and support family and friends. He will also be remembered by many as a jokester and a ruthless card player!
"Love ya, love ya, love ya Granddad!"
