Bob was born on Vancouver Island in Chemainus, BC on May 4, 1938. Following graduation from Ladysmith High School, Bob joined the RCAF for 8 years. It was in the Air Force that Bob met Hazel Currie, his future wife. They were married in Sussex, NB on December 27, 1958 and shortly after they started a family with Cindy then Bobby coming along. Work for Bob in the RCAF took him to variety of places including Kamloops and Biloxi, Mississippi. After serving in the RCAF Bob became employed with BC Hydro, starting in Vancouver and then moving to Nelson to finish off his 29 ½ year career as a telecontrol tech, retiring in 1997. Bob and Hazel lived in Nelson for 40 years before moving to Salmo into Bob’s dream home last summer. Over the course of his life, Box was very involved in the Shriners, the Masonic Lodge and the Nelson Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. He spent many hours volunteering his time to help make the community better. Bob was a man who loved all things outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, curling, skiing and most recently he took up water colour in Mexico. Hazel and Bob spent time in the south for the winters, mostly in Mexico, where they met many, many people over the years who became very close friends. Bob is survived by Hazel, his wife of 58 years, their two children, Cindy, of Vernon and Bobby, of Mission: grandson Aaron (Tinika) and granddaughter Kalynn. He is also survived by Sarah, his very first great-grandchild. H is also survived by his brother Allan (Judy) of Chemainus, BC, and Maureen, of Ladysmith, BC, among many friends both from near and far. A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, August 2nd, at 1pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Nelson. No flowers please, a donation in Bob’s name to your favourite charity.
