August 18, 1947 - December 7, 2020
Robert (Bob) Phillips passed away December 7, 2020, in his hometown of Nelson, BC, at the age of 73.
He was predeceased by his father, Robert Allen Phillips in 1973, and his mother Marguerite (Margie) Phillips (née Marapodi) in 1998, and his brother William (Bill) Phillips in 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joanne Phillips, daughters Yvonne Phillips and Carla Carrico, granddaughters Holly and Sasha Carrico, and nieces and cousins.
Born and raised in Nelson, Bob spoke fondly of his years as a pitcher playing Little League Baseball at Queen Elizabeth Park (although he also enjoyed away games as he found the jeering invigorating), of spending time in Six Mile at "camp" with his Aunt Josie and Uncle Eddie Mann, and of his general (mis)adventures around town.
After graduating from L.V. Rogers High School, he attended UBC for a few years, but ended up following his father's path into the insurance business. As an insurance adjuster, he spent nearly 20 years in Williams Lake, BC, and also subsequently worked in Kamloops, Yorkton, SK, and Regina before returning home to Nelson in 2006. He said that was it as far as moving, and while he mused that he actually missed Saskatchewan as it was "interesting," he was content to be in the familiar again.
Bob was both a huge history buff and known for his quirky sense of humour; he would have been amused that his passing coincided with the anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbour - "a date which will live in infamy."
