October 8, 1941 - February 10, 2020
Roberta Alexandra Scott (nee Niblock), known to many as Bobby, age 78 of Nelson BC, passed away on Monday, February 10th, 2020 with her daughter and son by her side.
Bobby was born October 8, 1941 in Red Deer Alberta, the daughter of Lily and Robert Alexander Niblock. She was named for her father, Robert Alexander who had joined the army earlier that year. Bobby was the youngest of four. Her sisters are Lorna (White), Verna (Wilson) and Patricia (Ness).
Bobby, her mother and sisters, stayed in Penhold with relatives while her dad was overseas. When Alex returned home the family moved to Redcliff and then Ralston where Bobby attended elementary school. She went to high school in Medicine Hat. After moving to Calgary at age 16 she shared an apartment with 3 friends - Angie, Helen and Ethel and attended business college. She did not finish high school until 1982 when she said "no child of mine will be graduating before I do!"
Bobby met her husband Peter James Scott (of South Africa) while traveling abroad with her sister Pat in 1962. The story is that when Pete saw Bobby he told her that he was going to marry her! They were married on January 12, 1963 in Ralston Alberta, where Bobby's parents lived.
Bobby and Pete began married life in Calgary, where their children Jodi and Keith were born. They moved to Felixton, and then Johannesburg South Africa in 1967 to spend time with Pete's beloved Gran. On their return to Canada they lived in Tahsis for a short time before moving to Nelson in 1973.
Bobby began her working life as a stenographer in Calgary. In 1970 when the young family moved back to Canada she worked at the Co-op in Tahsis. When the family moved to Nelson, Bobby got a job at BC Tel where she worked until retiring in 2000.
Bobby was always active in the community. She volunteered for many organizations over the years including: The Girl Guides of Canada, the MS Society, the Cancer Society, The Seniors Society, and the Nelson Streetcar. She was a long time member of Beta Sigma Phi, as well as the Nelson Madhatters - or Red Hat Society.
Bobby had a passion for photography, quite a collection of cameras and an amazing legacy of beautiful photographs. She took many courses, went on trips to practice her skills and had fun learning and traveling.
Bobby is survived by her daughter Jodi Lynn Caron, her son Phillip Keith Scott (Shaylin), and her four grandsons: Anthony James Caron, Adam Martin Caron, Simon Alexander Scott, and Mitchell James Scott; Bobby's sisters Lorna White, Verna Wilson and Pat Ness. There are many nieces and nephews as well as friends who will miss Bobby. The loving care of her nephew Rob White and niece Jan Sampson helped her greatly during the last difficult months of her life.
Bobby is predeceased by her husband, Peter James Scott, her parents, Lily and Alex Niblock, her son-in-law Ray Caron and brothers-in-law Bob White and John Ness.
A Memorial Service was held February 19th, 2020 at the Nelson United Church with an interment to take place in the spring when Bobby will be laid to rest with her husband Pete.
