In Loving Memory ~

Roy Winstanley passed away October 19th, 2024, in Nelson B.C at the age of 68.

Roy is predeceased by his birth father Peter Winstanley, stepfather Lawrence Kosiancic and mother Violet Kosiancic.

Roy lives on in the hearts of his children Peter Winstanley and Krystal Winstanley, his sisters Carol Castle and Ella Dear, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Roy was born and raised in Nelson B.C. He was proud to have worked for the City of Nelson for over 30 years and loved to share stories of his adventures doing various jobs, especially plowing, which he seemed very fond of.

Roy was far from perfect. He definitely had his share of struggles, but he could be kind, thoughtful and helpful and had even been known to shock people with his dry, quick witted humour from time to time. His property, though organized, bordered on looking like a mechanic hoarders dream, filled with all kinds of pilfered bits and pieces that might come in handy someday, yet most of his neighbours loved him as he kept to himself and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

He loved a good project but struggled with finishing them, unless of course it had a motor. He loved to create and would use bits and pieces from other motors, vehicles etc. to build what his friends referred to as "Roy built equipment"; overly built but well made and unique Frankenstein looking contraptions.

So great was his love of building that he still had and maintained a vehicle he had built with his father Lawrence when he was a young boy, that he lovingly called "The Bug".

Roy would never be described as overly social, he seemed to be more comfortable for the most part being on his own puttering around working on various projects. That being said, after retirement he did look forward to meeting on Thursdays at Mikes Place in Nelson to share some beers and talk shop with various like-minded friends.

It is for this reason that we have decided to celebrate Roy's life at Mikes on November 14th, 2024, between 4-6 PM. If you want to say farewell feel free to come by and make a toast, share a story, or just sit for a minute to say goodbye.

Finally, the family would like to make a special thank you to Dr Janz and all of the staff at Mountain Lakes Senior Community for doing their best to make Roy's passing as comfortable as possible.
