It is with gratitude, for a long life, well lived, that we announce the passing of our mother, Svava Hansen. She passed away peacefully at Mountain Lake Seniors Community in Nelson, BC.

Svava came to Nelson in 1943 from Arborg, Manitoba, and in 1946 settled in Ainsworth where husband, Hans, and her raised their family. She left Ainsworth in 1989 to move to Calgary where she resided until January 2012. In January 2012, after she broke her hip, she moved to Mountain Lakes, where she resided until her passing.

Svava, the social butterfly, cherished time with her family and friends, and could strike up a conversation and have a “chin wag” with anyone she met along the way. All who knew her will at one point have fallen victim to a hard-fought battle with her over a game of Cribbage. She also loved her bingo games and darts; she even bragged about her bulls eyes.

Svava is survived and will be missed dearly by her daughters, Denise (Floyd), Sharon, Gail (Gordon) and Diane, son Hans (Michelle) and son-in-law, Alan Tarr. Her spunk, kindness and caring personality of “Crazy Grandma Svava” will live on through her 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.

She passes on from this world to meet up again with her mother, Svanfrdur Holm, her father Gunnlauger Holm, sisters, Ida Pearson, Faye Helgason, and brother Garder Holm, daughter Darlene Tarr, husband, Hans, and son-in-law, Wayne Westerhaug and many cherished friends.

Words cannot express our gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful staff at Mountain Lakes who loved and cared for her as they would their own family.

Cremation has taken place in Nelson BC. Caring for the family will be Thompson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be expressed at
