Valerie was born on Valentine's day in Wallasey, England. During the war, she, her parents, brothers Bob and Richard moved to Buckley, North Wales. She studied at St. Kathrine's College in Liverpool to become a teacher.

In 1954 she imigrated to Canada, followed by her brothers, later her parents. Valerie taught in Kapuskasing, where she met and married Bill Shuttleworth. After a few years they moved to Nelson, BC. They both taught at Trafalgar Junior High School until their retirement.

She loved gardening, enjoyed the occasional hike, camping and fishing trip with Bill and took care of her aging mother for over 20 years. After she lost Bill, her mother and many of her best friends she decided to move to Parksville BC (Vancouver Island) In the early summer of 2016 she moved to Kamloops where she died suddenly Nov. 19th, 2017

She is predeceased by one nephew and her younger brother Richard who left behind his wife Shonnie, 2 sons and 4 grandchildren.

She is survived by her older brother Bob (Anne), 1 niece, 2 nephews and 2 great nieces.

She will be missed.
