In loving memory ~
Our beloved Mom, Verle Isobel Faasse (nee Nixon) died in Nelson, BC, on May 16, 2025, at 87 years of age.
The second of Jim and Elma Nixon's four children, Verle was born in Vallican, BC. She met and married Dad, Bill Faasse, in Osoyoos in 1956.
Mom and Dad purchased a 33 acre hobby farm at Beasley in 1969. The farm allowed Mom to fulfill her dream of having horses, which we did - many of them. Over the next 40 years it also became the stunning showcase of her gardening abilities.
She had a fondness for all animals and we always had at least one cat and dog in our lives.
Mom worked as a draughtsperson for the BC Forest Service. She was an active member of the BCGEU, representing her co-workers as shop steward. Possessing a keen intellect and a strong social conscience, Mom championed many political and environmental causes. She served her community as an active member of the NDP, and as an elected official on the board of the RDCK.
After retiring, she pursued her interests of raising sheep, showing driving ponies, and of course, gardening. Cross Country skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer were favourite pastimes. Mom also delighted in music and the arts and she had a lovely singing voice.
She was passionate and curious, loved reading and knitting and cherished her family.
You taught us so many things, Mom and your passions will live on in us.
Predeceased by her husband Bill in April of this year, Verle is survived by her children: Patricia (Alex ) Birukow, Heather (Dave) Rush, Tambrey (Derek) Visser-Faasse, Gordon (Kellie) Faasse, her eight grandchildren: Alison, Darci, Adrian, Robby, Eric, Gemma, Eecen and Erin, her six great grandchildren, her brother Tom Nixon and sister Heather (Alan) Campbell.
