October 17, 1931 - May 31, 2021
Regretfully, my brother and I announce the death of our mother Verna Ball (nee MacDonald) at her home in Castlegar, BC. On her behalf the family extends our sincerest gratitude to everyone at the Castleview Care Center for the care, compassion and especially the friendship she enjoyed while living there.
Verna was the eldest child of Dick and Eva MacDonald of Lavington, BC and a sister to Joan and Peggy. She graduated from Vernon's Fulton School in 1949 then trained and worked in nursing. In 1953 she married Bill Ball, a marriage that lasted 59 years till his death in 2013.
After starting her family she enjoyed a successful career in banking, working in Prince George, Prince Rupert and Nelson, BC. With the next move to Courtenay she built and enjoyed another successful career as a Real Estate Agent.
Retirement brought another move back to the Okanagan and finally to the West Kootenays to be close to family.
Verna was always a happy, friendly person who really did live her best life, she made the best of any situation and always enjoyed the company of friends and family. She loved to travel and had many adventures to Europe and elsewhere.
Verna is survived by her sons; Ian (Laurel) and David (Jane), her grandchildren; Craig (Teresa), Kelly (Matt), Dan (Caitlin) and Jon (Baylie), her
great-grandchildren; Brayden, Alisha, Jake and Max, her brother-in-law Ken, and sisters-in-law; Maggie and Mona.
She was a caring and protective mother and she loved us unconditionally no matter what we said or did. She would offer us advice but never judged us if we didn't take it. She always kept our secrets, she even cut the "Court Report" out of the newspaper before Dad got home so he wouldn't see it.
She would trust us and when we let her down she would forgive us, always, every time. You know that's not easy, a lot of us struggle to forgive others and I think that's what I admire the most, her ability to forgive and more on.Thanks for setting the example Mom, I'll try harder.
Love always, from your family
