In Loving Memory ~
Victoria Pele was born June 4, 1948 in Brantford Ontario. She would describe her upbringing as very traditional, but very challenging as well.
The difficulties that Victoria experienced in her early life helped form her desire to become a champion, and trail blazer in her own life and for the marginalized that came across her view.
Victoria was also a part of the Haight Ashbury movement in California, and regaled many, with crazy stories from that time. Her variety of life experiences all served to enrich the character so many of us had the opportunity to know and love.
She spent a significant amount of time at an ecumenical society, which honed her spiritual development, and her prayer and meditation life became firmly established.
Victoria spent a significant part of her working career in the social services field in Winnipeg, Manitoba as a volunteer coordinator and working with Indigenous populations.
She followed a friend to the Nelson area. However, by this time she was starting to experience significant health issues which made life difficult. Victoria also found herself isolating from people due to poor health and poverty issues.
Victoria became involved with the Salvation Army in the early 2000's accessing services, later becoming a part of the church as a friend until health prevented her from attending. She loved the hymns and songs of worship and sharing scripture.
Victoria was a prayer warrior who could be counted on to lift those in need to God! She often commented on the support that she received from The Salvation Army helped her to not simply exist but thrive. She became more interested and involved in life, both hers and making connections with those around her.
Victoria became a community advocate for others, helping to forge connections that would enhance and better the lives of all around her.
Victoria was strong-willed, determined, and a formidable force in the lives of those who loved her, and those she loved deeply.
On March 11, 2022 she passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones and with God's peaceful presence with everyone. We are comforted by the thought that she is with our heavenly Father, running and skipping and free from pain.
Victoria and those of us in attendance wanted to thank Dr. Merritt and nurse Paul, and the support worker Jo, for the tenderness and compassion they demonstrated.
