In Loving Memory ~

Our beloved mother, Yvonne Hickey, passed away peacefully on October 3rd, just shy of her 89th birthday. Mom was the heart of our home and family - her family meant everything to her. She was born in Creston, the only child of Joe and Louise Mermet, and at the age of 3, her family moved to Nelson.

Mom was an avid knitter, donating countless sweaters and mitts to the IODE organization over many years. Her grandchildren received many of her special creations, treasures they will hold onto.

Even into her 70s, Mom kept a large garden, making the best jams and jellies, some of which were even served to guests at Blaylock Estates. She was also a talented baker and loved to make cakes for friends and neighbors on special occasions. When Dad worked at Toyota Village, he'd often ask, "maybe we should have a cake this week," and she'd lovingly bake one for the staff. She was a social person and cherished her coffee outings with friends.

Yvonne leaves behind her son Doug and daughter-in-law Beth (who sadly passed shortly after Yvonne), her daughter Diane (Allan), and her beloved grandchildren Rob, Deanna (Ben), Thomas (Sophie), Chloe (Cody), and great-grandchildren Brinley, Beau, and Brooklyn.

Yvonne was married for 61 years to her soulmate, Bob, who passed away in 2015. After losing Dad, Mom was never quite the same.

We would like to thank the staff at Castleview Care Centre for their compassionate care over the past few years, with a special thanks to Patchy and Rose. At Yvonne's request, there will be no service. If you wish to honor her memory, please consider making a donation to the IODE organization in her name.
