HUGS AND SLUGS: Appreciation for the Sinixt Canoe Journey

And slugs to us for not, uh, being negative enough?

HUGS: To the responsible dog owners who obey the signs at Art Gibbon Park and leash their dogs.

HUGS: From a rider/driver to the cyclists who take the time to use the sidewalk when crossing the orange bridge. There is simply not enough room on the roadway to safely pass a cyclist. Cyclists, be careful when passing pedestrians on the sidewalk.

SLUGS: To the City of Nelson for the job they’ve done pruning trees along View Street. It looks like somebody beat the trees down with a sledgehammer. They are splintered and shattered, rather than cut. It looks awful. All it would have taken to do it right is sharpened saws, and a bit of care.

HUGS: To the driver/owner of CW Trucking out of Rosemont. We met Monday evening in the Mormon church parking lot. You asked my grandchildren if they wanted to blow the horn. You made their night and mine! Such a small but very special moment.

SLUGS: To the Nelson Star for printing only HUGS in the June 1 paper. How am I supposed to be a curmudgeon with all this positivity?!

HUGS: To the city staff who separate the bottles and cans at the dumpster at Lakeside Park when dropping off garbage bags. Your efforts are very much appreciated!

HUGS: To all the organizations and individuals who helped with the Sinixt Canoe Journey this weekend. It was so heartwarming to see their canoes in their waters again.

SLUGS: To the liquor store for joining in the maddening practice of requesting a tip from shoppers just for ringing up our purchases. You’ve got to be kidding.
