HUGS AND SLUGS: Come for the snacks, stay for the news

Who could have guessed the Osprey Snack Bar's Facebook page would double as local journalism?

HUGS: To all who proudly display our Canadian flag. Could we ensure the flag we fly isn’t tattered, faded or torn?

SLUGS: To the many people who park in the short lane between Safeway and the liquor store in Nelson. You block the crosswalk, restrict delivery trucks and emergency vehicles, and constrict all other traffic. It’s a no-parking zone for many reasons. Use the parking lot!

SLUGS: To whoever broke the cute lamp in a free pile on Robson Street. Now it is just garbage. Good work.

HUGS: To those downtown businesses that look after their buildings. SLUGS to those businesses that don’t.

HUGS: A big hug to the gentleman who delivered my much-needed parcel to my door for work. But a big fat SLUG to the post office. Just because we both had the same street number, do you not read addresses? We wonder why Canada Post is in constant trouble!

HUGS: Huge thanks to Lynda, who runs the Osprey Snack Bar Facebook page, for keeping East Shore residents updated on ferry operations. You're the only reliable source of information for the locals, and your volunteer work is hugely appreciated. Someone give this woman a raise!

HUGS: On behalf of the Canadian Nursing Student Association, a heartfelt thank you to Bloom Nightclub for generously donating their incredible space for our end-of-semester wrap-up and fundraiser. Your support helped us create a truly unforgettable evening as we celebrated with a prom! A second HUG goes out to our phenomenal entertainment for the night — DJ WHO, Gabe C, and Trip A — who donated their time and kept the energy high and the dance floor full all night long.

HUGS: To our longtime local advertiser and community information source for 50 years, Pennywise. You’ve served the community well! Many thanks, and happy trails to all of you. You’ll be missed.
