HUGS: To our local fire fighting professionals for delivering treats to health care workers and supporting a local business. What a kind, sweet gesture.

HUGS: To the children of Kootenay Kids Early Care and Learning Centre. Your Valentine’s gift bag brightened my day. May your future’s be filled with good health and happiness. Thank you again. (This was sent by a senior at Kiwanis Nelson.)

SLUGS: Shame on the people leaving full black bags of household garbage at our resident’s homes in Fairview. Quit making your problem our problem.

SLUGS: To the coffee shop that has China mugs on display but insists on giving patrons disposable cups when drinking on site and charging $0.25 per cup. Please return to mugs. Washing those is more environmentally friendly than having the garbage can full to overflowing with paper cups and plastic lids that will end up in the landfill.

SLUGS: To the golf course in Rosemont for demonstrating the worst transgressions of private land logging by destroying a tract of mature forest bordering the city that was helping absorb greenhouse gases, displacing many birds and animals including knowingly wrecking a heron nest. I know the golf club is a century old – too bad their thinking is too.

SLUGS: To the crews that are nowhere to be found as we are forced to inhale the dust from the excessive amount of sand and gravel on our city roads. Walking anywhere right now is wreaking havoc on our lungs and last year’s mess didn’t even get cleaned up.

HUGS: A huge hug to the person who pushed the snowbank back at the top of my driveway close to Cottonwood Lake. This makes a big difference for the school bus being able to pull further off the highway making all the kids safer.

HUGS: To my sweetheart on our anniversary. Life is sweet with you!

SLUGS: To those to throw a lot of empty cans, empty plastic battles, dirty face masks, etc., on the ground around LVR school. We hope that students of that high school will learn to clean after themselves and take care of their environment.

HUGS: To people around Nelson with smiles on their faces, saying hello or giving a friendly wave. Thank you all for that, it makes our walks so much more enjoyable and days brighter!
