Nelson residents are feeling affectionate these days.

HUGS to the Nelson police officers and the distressed individual they were assisting the morning of January 12 on Vernon Street. They have a difficult job in trying to help somebody get the help they need and did so with patience and compassion and the individual clearly needs help and support.

HUGS to ABE (adult basic education educators in Nelson ), who go above and beyond and always making sure we have what we need to thrive.

SLUGS to the dog owners who do not pick up after their pets. I was walking my dog at the off-leash area by the lake (near the airport) and was appalled at the amount of dog poop littering the entire area.

HUGS to the City of Nelson for providing such a wonderful place for Nelson pups to play. Too bad it is not appreciated the way it should be.

SLUGS to those responsible for changing Canadian flags in our city. Those pink, shredded rags hanging from flag poles are NOT Canadian Flags.

HUGS to my co-worker, who has a big heart and truly cares about everyone he comes in contact with, for initiating this heartfelt help. The world truly needs more people who are above themselves and help others.

HUGS to the rep from a local dealership who got me rolling again.

HUGS and many thanks to the wonderful young man from Nelson who stopped on a very cold winter’s morning to change my flat tire for me. You were awesome.

HUGS to the RDCK for widening and grading the rail-trail above town. It’s so much more multi-use now.

HUGS to the volunteer and his kids who set x-country ski tracks on the rail-trail. That is sooo nice.

SLUGS to the lady that tail-gated me home flashing her lights when I accidentally slipped through a stop sign. Your dangerous driving put us all at risk of an accident.

HUGS to the boss, the crew, and of course Mother Nature, for the surprise gift of a midweek powder day. A reminder of what a lucky bunch we are, living in such a great community, in such a beautiful part of the world.

SLUGS to the people dumping their compost at the boat launch in Kokanee Creek Park.

SLUGS to the woman at the grocery store who thinks it’s OK to yell at children.

SLUGS to the male staff member in a Nelson entertainment spot who refused to look for my lost keys.

HUGS to the nice lady that helped me on January 11. Snow was piled between the street and sidewalk and I could not get through. She stamped the snow down and took my hand and helped me to the sidewalk.
