HUGS: To all the staff at our local lingerie shop. I have never experienced better customer service. You were all so kind, helpful and knowledgeable. I will be back.

SLUGS: To the person responsible for the word scramble for not realizing that “shower” can morph into something far less savoury. Hugs because it made me laugh.

HUGS: To Troy and his dog Stella at Cottonwood Lake for being kind to me when I was having a bit of a freak out.

SLUGS: To Nelson Hydro for seeking approval from the British Columbia Utilities Commission for a general rate increase of 9.87 per cent for its electricity rates in its rural service area. I would support a reasonable increase but 9.87 is ridiculous. Submit a letter of comment via the BC Utilities Commission website by Feb. 21 to voice your opinion.

SLUGS: To Nelson Hydro and Council for the nearly 10 per cent electric rate hike for rural customers while keeping urban rates at four per cent.

HUGS: To the people waving enormous Canada flags off their trucks recently. Waving something so obnoxiously huge around looks like compensation for feeling small and scared.

HUGS: To all the folks at Whitewater Ski Resort. They say bad things happen in threes and this has been a rough year mechanically. Despite the setbacks, appreciate the efforts to keep us informed and the creativity to continue to make for the best experience under the circumstances. Whitewater is a special place in no small part due to the exceptional staff.

HUGS: To the two gentlemen at the Nelson Post office for helping me find a box that accidentally got shipped to the wrong address back in December. Your kindness put a huge smile on my face! Thank you for reminding me how simple it can be to make a stranger’s day.
