HUGS AND SLUGS: Paying it forward at the A&W drive-thru

No one really likes onion rings, if we are being honest
aw
The A&W drive-thru in Nelson, where car exhaust, greasy onion rings and random acts of kindness co-exist.

SLUGS: To the e-bikers who whiz by at high speeds on the Lakeside Park pathway. Your selfish need for speed is a danger to people walking, children playing, and others enjoying the beautiful park. Having you come roaring around the corner is a hazard to our health. If you want to cut through the park, slow down to pedal power!

HUGS: To the person who paid for my meal at the A&W drive-thru! You made my day.

HUGS: A huge hug to the young woman in the white SUV with her baby in the carseat who stopped to help us when our car broke down on May 28. We were on Highway 6 about 10 km north of Slocan with no cell signal and no inhabited properties anywhere near. You took down our information and called the BCAA for us when you got to a phone.  The tow truck showed up and got us home for repairs. We can't thank you enough for your kindness.

SLUGS: To every RDCK board member who caved to pressure from the Area F director and the provincial government, all of whom ignored legitimate health concerns as documented by Interior Health and an independent engineering firm. This wasn’t leadership or governance for people's safety and health — it was capitulation to power and politics!

HUGS: To Trafalgar Middle School and to Mr. Mush, Ms. Foster, Mr. Mont and Ms. Wallan. Extra big hugs to Ms. Bailey for being a fantastic mentor. Thanks for giving our child a wonderful experience. We’ll miss you all.

HUGS: To Shawn and Carla and the Tiny Lights crew for creating such an inclusive and magical weekend.

HUGS: A big hug to the warm-hearted people of Nelson for welcoming my friends Jenny and Neil with open arms. Since choosing your beautiful city for a fresh start, their lives have been transformed. It’s clear they’re happy, healthy and thriving. Thank you, Nelson, for being the perfect place for their new chapter.
