HUGS: The to Nelson Fire Department for replacing the Canadian flag on the building on the corner of Baker and Josephine Streets. And huge hugs to the group of people who stopped to sing O Canada while the flag was being raised.
SLUGS: To the RDCK for having one of the highest rates for commercial ice rental in the province. Double slug to charging these rates for a recent charity ice hockey tournament that raised funds for KERPA. These rates are impacting both player and economic development in our city.
HUGS: A big warm hug to the Nelson city garbage collectors for turning blue recycling bins upside down on a rainy day. Much appreciated.
SLUGS: What's with the City of Nelson taking out their parking problems on the seniors of this city? Senior parking passes were $90 a year last year, and we couldn't park on Baker Street. Fine we can deal with that. But to raise the annual cost 55 per cent to $144 per year and we're still not allowed to park on Baker Street! That is outrageous!
HUGS: Big hugs to the strappin’ young lad who caught our runaway bocce ball before it caused any damage in the Uphill region.
SLUGS: To me! On Wednesday I discovered a large, very dented and rusty cooking pot under the bench on the other side of the third trestle bridge on the Rail Trail. It wasn't mine. I stole it! However, as I got closer to the parking lot at the top of Elwyn, I was overcome with guilt. It wasn't mine to take, and so, to the owner of the pot, I want you to know that it is safe and sound in the trash bin.
SLUGS: To the Nelson and District Community Complex for charging seniors full price until age 75.
SLUGS: To F. We met him on the Rail Trail, where at the bench past the third trestle he took out a container of snacks, shucked a tangerine, and threw the peel over the ledge (in six months to a year it will disintegrate). Please, F, let us know where else you are planning on hiking, will you be taking food (in resealable containers) and will you continue to discard your waste?
