HUGS: To Cheri at Kootenay Medical Centre for always going above and beyond with compassion and kindness. You are so appreciated.
SLUGS: To the person(s) responsible for removing the boat out of the water off Lakeside beach. Is this going to be its new home? Just sad it’s still there.
SLUGS: To those riding e-bikes illegally and recklessly. After narrowly missing hitting a group of teens who blew a stop sign at high speed (doubling without helmets), I feel it is only a matter of time before we have a tragic, life-altering injury or fatality involving e-bikes in this town.
SLUGS: To the authorities who oughtta be ticketing the little twerps doing 60 in a 40 km/h zones downhill not watching for traffic. I’d be caught in a minute and lose points. Why do these aggressive driving teens get away with it and not me with twice their years of age driving experience?
SLUGS: A big, sweaty slug to Selkirk College for yet again failing to maintain the Silver King campus — for the second summer in a row, the daycare there has been left to swelter without air conditioning. This isn’t just uncomfortable, it’s unsafe. Children and educators deserve far better. At some point, someone in charge needs to be held accountable for this pattern of negligence. Take care of your building!
HUGS: To Mrs. Newth for all the work you do as South Nelson's music teacher. It’s been so fun to watch my kids' and their friends' curiosity and appreciation for music flourish under your teaching.
HUGS: To the big black truck who let me take the lane as I biked across the big orange bridge. It was the first time that I didn't get passed by vehicles biking across the bridge and I felt so much safer. I know I was slowing you down so I pedalled my heart out across!
SLUGS: To people who bring curbside garbage from their neighbourhood to someone else's neighbourhood instead of dealing with it. We are all tired of it, but dropping it off in someone else's yard is insulting and rude.
HUGS: To the staff for their work and RDCK directors for putting the greater good first in approving the Spearhead development. Numerous letters of support, company reputation and alignment with provincial government priorities won out over questionable reasons for opposition.
