HUGS AND SLUGS: What good is Voyent if it isn't used?

SLUGS: To the City of Nelson’s Voyent alert app, for not sending an alert regarding the closure of View Street and Kootenay Lake Hospital during heavy police presence. Instead the updates were only found on social media. What is the app alerting for, if not that situation?

HUGS: To Bill Metcalfe and Nelson Star for the darling front cover photo of the little'un offering her daddy an Easter egg.

SLUGS: To clubs who discriminate against singles by charging higher fees than they do for couples.

HUGS: The Nelson Nerds Lego Robotics team would love to send out a big thank you to everyone who helped them compete in the Lego World Robotics Championships in Houston. In addition to local business sponsors, friends, family and total strangers also supported us. Thanks again from Eric Bibby and Kasper Breisnes.

SLUGS: To City of Nelson Bylaw Enforcement who continually pick the low hanging fruit of overdue parking meters and ignore the trailers, boats, unlicensed vehicles, excavators and junk left illegally on boulevards and streets. Parking enforcement is easy and usually non-confrontational but it’s time to deal with people face to face who have no respect for their neighbours and community.

HUGS: To the ladies at the dollar store on Baker Street who provided complimentary much-needed finger grips to two workers at the federal elections voting booth on Monday. Those reams of papers we had to go through for 12 hours proved to be a much easier task thanks to you!

HUGS: I had the good fortune this week to ride a City of Nelson transit bus each afternoon. I haven’t been on the bus in years and what a wonderful experience it turned out to be. The Fairview bus driver (Dan) was super friendly and it was heart-warming to watch him engage with the riders. The riders themselves were so courteous and went out of their way to thank Dan for the ride. Thanks Nelson Transit and riders, you are an excellent example of humanity and community. I look forward to my next trip!

SLUGS: To the person who falsely took credit for fixing the soccer nets in a Nelson park. You are a purveyor of misinformation. Shame on you!
