HUGS AND SLUGS: Who's the lying liar?

No one likes getting lied to, but someone was so upset they wrote a slug about it

Look at this Banana slug! Nature is cool. (Thomas Schoch)

SLUGS: Big, stinking slugs of diesel exhaust to the guy who idles his noisy, polluting diesel truck every time he drives anywhere. It is not necessary to “warm up” an engine for 5-10 minutes. Your thoughtlessness means the entire neighbourhood is covered in diesel exhaust on a regular basis.

HUGS: To pedestrians who carry lights and wear reflective items after dark.

SLUGS: To the City of Nelson for neglecting to upgrade and add Christmas lights to downtown. It is so dark it feels unsafe. SLUGS also for not planting any of the planters this past summer or weeding the parks at Hall Street Plaza. Every other town in B.C. has winter lights and summer flowers. Why don’t we?

HUGS: A big hug to the pavement marking crew for repainting the white line along each edge of the highway between Nelson and South Slocan and beyond. I was delighted to see it being done the very next day after I had phoned in to say how faded and worn the white lines were getting. These lines are essential for the safety of older drivers on these dark winter evenings.

SLUGS: Huge slugs to the person/people who are dropping their household garbage in the containers at Kokanee Park. Most of the garbage bins have been removed or locked to discourage this but people are still doing it! The park is officially closed, so pay the $4 and do it yourself! Bears are still around.

SLUGS: To those building McMansions in Nelson, but only residing here part time. Please remember that we are in the midst of a housing crisis. Your empty homes take the heart out of our community.

HUGS: A huge thank you hug to the Nelson Izu-Shi Friendship Society for the amazing work on Cottonwood Falls Park. You have turned this into a place of beauty and healing for all to enjoy. A shining gem in our downtown.

HUGS: To all my girlfriends working hard to support their kids and be amazing moms.

HUGS: To the thoughtful person who found our envelope containing important papers in the hospital parking lot and turned it in to the hospital receptionist, who contacted us. It saved us hours of searching.

SLUGS: Recycled slugs to the Regional District of Central Kootenay for their decision to close the Kokanee Creek store drop-off point. This site has been very well used when the Balfour site is closed three days per week. This decision is short sighted when recycling is being encouraged.

SLUGS: Slugging slugs to people who say "I am not going to lie to you," before they even say anything to you. So, you were going lie? Words be nimble, words be quick, words resemble walking sticks!

SLUGS: To the Interior Health policy makers for another bad decision, not communicated. I had a standing order for a blood test done semi-annually. Today I went to get my most recent test. I was told, after online booking and fasting, a new IHA policy cancelled standing orders over one year. So I didn’t get the test, have to make an appointment with my doctor, then rebook the test, attend the appointment, then go see her again to discuss the results. How is that stretching our scarce medical resources?
