LETTER: Cyclists and pedestrians should take precautions

Reader Richard Dean: "Enjoy the fresh air and exercise but please help yourself stay alive."

While it is encouraging to see so many people on bicycles and walking along the highway it is disappointing and a concern that so many don’t take proper safety precautions to increase their visibility.

As a responsible motorcyclist and pedestrian I wear high visibility clothing and use a light if I walk my dog at night along the highway. Riding a bicycle or walking at night with no lighting and wearing clothes that blend into the background is just asking to be hit.

Enjoy the fresh air and exercise but please help yourself stay alive.
