LETTER: Handicapped parking spots debated

My mother is handicapped and she carries a Handicapped Parking permit with her for her drivers to use.

A comment in the Hugs and Slugs on Friday, December 6 remarked on people using the handicapped parking when they clearly do not need to.

I use the handicapped parking spot, but I am not handicapped.

My mother is and she carries a Handicapped Parking permit with her for her drivers to use.

So, sometimes, I know it looks like I am trying to cheat the system and get a closer parking spot, when in fact what I am doing is parking the car to go in the building/mall to pick up my mother.

I wish that the close spots could be reserved (as in Australia) for anybody needing some assistance (like young parents with young children).

So, from someone who used to bad mouth (under my breath of course) the abusers of handicapped parking... there are some situations that do not appear above board, but actually are.

Merry Christmas.
