Good news for Nelson walkers, hikers, joggers and motorized wheelchair users. The City of Nelson constructed a new sidewalk along Morgan Street (the section below Gyro Park). Pedestrians and wheelchair users using this street used to be quite vulnerable as there was no clear indication where the edge of the vehicle traveling lane was.

I took a walk up and down this sidewalk — it takes less then five minutes one way. It is a great improvement. One can now safely and comfortably walk from the top end of Vernon Street to where Morgan Street meets Gyro Park Road. This sidewalk will allow many more people to walk from their homes to and from downtown and leave their cars at home.

Motorized wheelchair users may and should use sidewalks when they are available. Also, the route is quite scenic with the high cliff on the one side and many large trees on the other.
