RE: Nelson council puts Hall Street pier canopy on hold for further study, Feb. 16

I’m glad there is healthy discussion among the council about spending taxpayers money on the canopy at the pier or not. I’m in the camp that a canvas that can be taken up and down may be a better option.

You know what else is amazing for tourists to see and hear about? A solution to the affordable housing and drug crises. For a town to boast a new and compassionate solution in North America would be groundbreaking and bring in tourist interest I am sure. Why don’t we follow Germany’s example and build some sleeping pods for our unhoused friends? I envision a designated area where there are on the ground support workers.

Thank you to councillors who also think about the poor and addicted.

The canopy at the pier may kill two birds with one stone: provide shelter for our unhoused friends and bring in tourist dollars! You know that will definitely be an outcome, intentional or not.
