LETTER: Police budget getting out of control

Reader B. Elasoff thinks we don't need both the RCMP and the city police.

I am a Nelson senior of 50-plus years and my opinion is that our police budget is getting out of control. Over 21 per cent of our budget and more officers requested?

When the City of Nelson sought a chief of police, empire building was not a job description or requirement.

In my years of employment (almost 40) comparing like employment and pay elsewhere in the province was answered with “if you are qualified, you may go to that city and collect the pay of that city.”

I do not believe there is another city anywhere that has an RCMP subdivision headquarters and a city police force, paralleling services.
